LINCOLN – The Columbus baseball team is back on track, after a high scoring victory over the Lincoln East Spartans.
Things didn’t look great for the Discoverers early on who were scoreless for two innings, before giving up 4 runs to the Spartans in the bottom of the second. Columbus picked up the pace slighting in the top of the 3rd, plating their first 2 runs of the game, but would give up another 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.
The 4th inning was scoreless for both teams, with CHS grabbing one more run in the 5th to bring the game back to a 3-6 deficit going into the 6th.
Columbus High flipped a switch in the top of the 6th inning, and scored a whopping 7 runs, giving them a 10-6 lead going into the bottom of the inning. Unfortunately for the Discoverers, Lincoln East answered with 4 runs of their own, and tied the game at 10-10 going into the final inning of regulation.
Columbus High tacked on 1-run in the top of the 7th, which proved to be the difference maker, as CHS went on to claim the 11-10 victory.
Logan Mueller had 4 RBI on one hit, and also plated one run himself, while Eric Mustard had 2 hits, 1 RBI, and ran across home 3 times. Cole Wilcox (1), Tyler Palmer (1), Jacob Morse (1), Alex Uhlig (2), Trevor Kaslon (2), and Jake Novicki (1) all scored runs during Monday night’s game.
Novicki was given the win from the mound for Columbus, with 3 strikeouts whith Palmer also snagged 3 K’s, and Nathan Slusarksi striking out 1 batter.
The Discoverers are next scheduled to play Norfolk on April 12th.
