OMAHA – Former Falls City resident and current Creighton volleyball player Brittany Witt will now be playing with the number one team in USA volleyball this summer.
Witt, a libero, who just finished her freshman season with the Bluejays, was initially going to play in Europe with a secondary Team USA squad, but after an injury to the #1 team’s setter, Witt was called up to the “A” squad in Thailand.
“Very shocked at first when I got asked to go to Thailand. I could not stop smiling all day, I was like ‘I have to tell so many people about this!” says Brittany Witt.
Witt lived in Falls City briefly during her childhood and her father still lives in town.
She went to high school at Omaha Marian, where she set her sights on the national team. While she had ambitions of getting on the team in college, she did not necessarily think she’d get a spot so soon.
“I was definitely was not expecting this my freshman year of college,” says Witt.
Witt had spectacular first of year of college volleyball, getting named Big East Freshman of the Week several times, leading all freshman in the conference in digs and also being dubbed the AVCA East region – Freshman of the Year.
At one point Witt was going to travel to Thailand for a school trip, but was unable to go at the time.
“I didn’t get to go to that because of volleyball, so not it’s kind of awesome that I have the opportunity to be able to go there for that,” says Witt.
Witt’s new team, CNT-Thailand, is coached by Jerritt Elliot, head coach of the University of Texas.
