FAIRBURY – It didn’t take the full game for Wilber Post 101 to defeat Fairbury Post 24 the first time these two teams met this Senior Legion season. Wilber made sure to leave little doubt in this matchup.
Wilber ended it early in six innings, with a 19-6 victory. Post 101 accounted for 16 hits, and would score at least three runs in the third through the sixth innings.
Fairbury jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after a two-run home run from Cayman DeBoer in the first.
Wilber would respond with three runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead, before Tanner Novotny crossed home plate for Fairbury, tying the game at four.
Post 101 went on to score 15 more runs in the game, highlighted by a two-run home run from Josh Kalkwarf in the fourth.
Hunter Cerveny and Grant Boysen each had three hits and three runs scored in the game. Boysen also added three RBIs.
Kalkwarf got the win on the mound. He would pitch a complete game, giving up eight hits and striking out six.
Wilber improves to 5-7 and will host Crete on Friday.
Fairbury drops to 3-8. The seniors travel to the Marysville Tournament this weekend, while the Juniors visit Tri County on Friday.
