Sister M. Lucretia Schmit

Services for Sister M. Lucretia Schmit, 92, formerly of Osmond, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Osmond with burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the church with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Arrangements are by Stonacek Memorial Chapel. The Revs. Stan Schmit, Michael Swanton and Roger Schmit will officiate. Sister of St. Francis Lucretia M. Schmit, O.S.F., formerly Frances M. Schmit who grew up in Osmond and was a retired sister, died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Sacred Heart Convent in Milwaukee, Wis. Sister was the oldest of 11 children of the late Cornelius J. and Gertrude (Billerbeck) Schmit, born April 30, 1922, at Osmond. She attended rural School District 49 and St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Osmond High School in 1940. She worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital prior to entering the convent. Sister Lucretia was received into the Community of the School of Sisters of St Francis on June 12, 1944. She was given the name Sister Lucretia and professed her final vows in 1951. Sister Lucretia celebrated her 70th anniversary of her religion profession in 2014. Survivors are sisters Ann McHugh of Royal, Iowa, Lucille Kneivel of Norfolk, Rita and husband John G. Aschoff of Osmond; brothers and sisters-in-law Cornelius and wife Lucille Schmit of Fremont, Henry and wife Carolyn Schmit of Osmond, Father Roger Schmit, O.S.B., of Kansas City, Mo., Jerome and wife Patricia Schmit of Norfolk and Norbert and wife Patricia Schmit of Grane City, Pa.; also, nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Vincent Schmit; one sister, Sister Barbara Schmit, O.S.F.; three brothers-in-law, Lawrence McHugh of Royal, Gregory Thramer of Norfolk and Joseph Knievel of Neligh; sister-in-law Shirley Schmit of Randolph; niece, nephew and several grandnieces and nephews.
