Velma Wickersham

Funeral services for Velma R. Wickersham, age 90 of Lynch, Nebraska, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013, at the Lynch Community Hall. Reverend Seung Ho Park will officiate, with burial in the Highland Cemetery near Lynch.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Lynch Community Hall.

Brockhaus Funeral Home of Spencer, Nebraska, is in charge of arrangements.

Velma died Monday, December 9, 2013, at Alpine Village of Verdigre, Nebraska.

Velma Rosella Wickersham, daughter of Andrew Jackson and Hazel Mae (Quimby) Pritchett, was born September 3, 1923 on Nate and Martha Pritchett's farm located three miles east, one mile north, and ¼ mile east of Lynch, Nebraska. Velma attended country school in Boyd County.

Velma was married to Harold Lawrence Wickersham on August 7, 1941, at O'Neill, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with seven children: Lawrence, Larry, Valene, Dennis, Darold, Jack, and John. They went to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where Velma and Harold worked in the beet fields, then returned to Lynch in March 1942 where they moved to a farm three miles north and ½ mile east, which they later bought. Velma and Harold lived here until 1973, when they retired and moved to Lynch. She helped on the farm and was a homemaker. Velma was an excellent cook and baker and she loved to bake bread, rolls, and pies. Velma enjoyed spending time with her family and preparing a meal for all of them to enjoy. She was noted for her chickens in the yard and they were even seen on Nebraska Public Television. Velma sold Watkins for many years and volunteered at the Lynch Library. She loved bowling and her afternoon card parties. Velma was a member of the Methodist Church and belonged to the Methodist Ladies Aid. She passed away December 9, 2013, at Alpine Village Retirement Center in Verdigre, Nebraska, at the age of 90.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Valene Mahlendorf of Neligh, Nebraska; three sons and their wives, Darold and Brenda Wickersham of Lynch, Nebraska, Jack and Julie Wickersham of Parker, South Dakota, and John and Jenean Wickersham of Lynch; daughter-in-law, Mary Wickersham of Bondurant, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Connie Wickersham of O'Neill, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; three sons, Lawrence, Larry, and Dennis; one granddaughter, Linda Marie Wickersham; her parents, Andrew and Hazel Pritchett; four sisters, Martha Hornback, Spencer, Nebraska, Irma Cross, Moville, Iowa, Norma Emme, O'Neill, Nebraska, and Evelyn Cameron, Niobrara, Nebraska; and one brother, Earl Pritchett, Lynch, Nebraska.
