Walter C. Hilkemann Sr.
Services for Walter C. Hilkemann Sr., 79, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery and the Rev. Leon Rosenthal officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Stonacek Funeral Chapel. He died Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Stanton Health Center.
He was born Nov. 8, 1934, in rural Pierce to Herman and Augusta (Koll) Hilkemann. He was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in 1934 and confirmed there May 22, 1949. He attended Pierce County District 7 School.
He married Clydine M. Tyler on March 20, 1959, at Christ Lutheran Church. After they were married they farmed near Hadar until moving to Norfolk in 1980. He worked at the Nebraska Veterans Home for 10 years. He was a dock worker for Clark Brothers Transfer. Walter enjoyed doing yard work throughout his life. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Survivors include wife Clydine Hilkemann of Norfolk; children Lisa and husband Stan Dike of Norfolk, Liwei and wife Douhui Xu of Leander, Texas; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings Fred and wife Ruth Hilkemann of Lincoln, Paul Hilkemann Sr. of Norfolk, Edward Hilkemann of Norfolk, Gladys and husband Bud Spreeman of Norfolk, Hilda Knapp of Madison and Ella Bohn of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herbert and Herman; and two sisters, Dorothy and Helen.
Music will be by organist Starla Landkamer with "In the Garden," "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Amazing Grace." Casket bearers will be Walter Haase, Glenn Spreeman, Mark Hilkemann, Larry Hilkemann, Darryl Bohn and Doug Rumsey. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.stonacekfuneralchapel.com.
