Marjorie Schaffer

Funeral services for Marjorie Schaffer, 64, of Madison will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at St. Leonard's Catholic Church, Madison: Reverend Scott Hastings will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Leonard's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the church, with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. Resseguie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at her home.
Marjorie (Drahota) Schaffer was born January 3, 1950 at Madison, Nebraska to James and Florence (Knust) Drahota. She attended St. Leonard's Catholic Grade School in Madison, Assumption Academy in Norfolk, and her junior and senior years of school at Madison High School. She graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce, Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1970.
On April 3, 1970, she married Douglas Schaffer, and they made their home in Madison. For the next 20 years, Marjorie worked for the law offices of James Brogan, Moyer & Moyer and the Dan Jewell firm. In 1991 she was elected as Clerk of the District Court of Madison County, a position which she held for the next 24 years. While in office, Marjorie served on various committees, including the District Court Manual committee, which was responsible for compiling the volumes detailing the responsibilities of the clerks and the manner in which those duties are to be carried out. She was appointed by Chief Justice Heavican to the Justice Automated Advisory Committee and served as a liaison between the clerks and the Nebraska Child Support Enforcement Association. She was a member and past officer of the Northeast Nebraska Clerks of the District Court Association, and a member of the Nebraska Association of County Officials. Within her church, Marjorie was an active member of St. Leonard's Church, serving as a Guild leader, Guild officer, as a CCD teacher and was a member of the Parish Council.
Marjorie is survived by her three children, son James Schaffer (and wife Christina), Mark Schaffer, and daughter Christine Schaffer of Madison; grandchildren Joshua, Megan and Lauren; sister Dorothy (Al) Petricek; brothers Dave (Karen) Drahota of Norfolk, Ken (Jennifer) Drahota of Norfolk, Duane (Michele) Drahota of Lincoln, Don (Jane) Drahota of Madison, and Jerry (Jann) Drahota of Kansas, as well as numerous and much loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Richard Drahota and Jim Drahota, and Douglas Schaffer.
