Evelyn Thayer, 80, of Osmond died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Osmond, with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, and the Rev. Rogers Chishiba officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stonacek Memorial Chapel, Osmond. She was born June 6, 1934, on a farm in Shell Creek Bottom, rural Humphrey, to Edward and Rose (Nansel) Thayer. She attended school in rural Shell Creek Bottom near Humphrey through the eighth grade. The family moved to a farm in the Osmond in 1948 area, where Evelyn remained on the farm to help. She took care of her brothers and sisters. She continued to do the farm work and was still very active. She loved all her animals, especially her dogs and sheep. Mostly she loved visiting with family and friends. She also liked her garden, and her favorite flowers were roses and peonies. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors are Phyllis Makuch of Warren, Mich., Carolyn Greenberger of Corpus Christi, Texas, Norma Thayer of Hooper and Charles Thayer of Norfolk, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Rose; three brothers, Larry Thayer, Clifford Thayer and Leland Thayer; and two sisters, Marilee DuBeau and Ruth Carson. Organist will be Charlotte Kiichler with hymns, "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace" and "Peace Like a River."
