Michael Dennis Thatch, age 71, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in Lincoln, Nebraska from lung cancer.
Mike was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on May 1, 1942 to Bill and Margie (Maurer) Thatch of Madison, Nebraska. Mike grew up in Madison, spending time at his grandparents, Al and Pearl Maurer's, farm, graduating from Madison High School in 1959, before starting at Norfolk's Roehr Products plant in 1962. He served in the Army Reserves from 1964-1970. In 1967, he and Nadine Spencer married and they had four children together.
Mike worked 42 years at what is now Covidian, 30 of those years as plant manager. During that time, he also traveled for the company to various locations both nationally and internationally.
He loved the Norfolk/Madison area, moving back permanently in 1981 after living in Connecticut and Florida for work. He was heavily involved in the Norfolk community, serving in various civic positions. After retirement, Mike and Nadine moved to Lincoln in 2012 to be closer to family.
Mike was an avid hunter, fisherman, and reader, who also enjoyed gardening, a love he shared with his mother, Margie. He was a generous, smart, hard-working man who will be remembered for his loyalty and the impact he had on many, especially his family and friends, many whom he'd known for over 50 years.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Bill (1944), his mother Margie (2006), and his and Nadine's firstborn, Sally (1968).
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nadine; three children, Jeff Thatch of Norfolk, Nebraska, Jenni Puchalla (Russ) of Roca, Nebraska, and William Thatch of Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandsons, Ezra and Levi Puchalla; and two sisters, Carol Garcia of Fort Meyers, Florida, and JoAnn Beyers of Norfolk, Nebraska.
The family wishes to express our thanks for the support and prayers during the final three weeks of Mike's life. Condolences may be directed to the family at 2615 Blaine Dr., Lincoln, NE 68521.
