Funeral services for Jean M. Patzel, 88, of Madison, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison. Reverend Cynthia Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Resseguie Funeral Home in Madison.
Jean passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 29, at the Careage Campus of Care in Wayne, NE.
She was born on June 4, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Marion (Stark) Wehrle in Madison, NE. She was a life-long resident of Madison, only leaving for a brief time after graduating from Madison High School in 1943 when she worked at the Defense Plant in Ogden, UT, where her father had gone to find work. After about a year or so, she returned to Madison and worked at the café in town.
On February 15, 1947, Jean married Donald Patzel in Omaha, NE. The couple made their home in Madison and Jean became a loving wife and busy homemaker. Her family was her life and they all loved her dearly. She also loved dancing (even tap dancing). She enjoyed making homemade greeting cards for family and friends.
Jean was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Moncrief of Plains, KS and Joylene Bierman of Madison, NE; 3 Grandchildren, Terry (Kimberly) of Lincoln, NE; Brendalee (Kevin) Pearson of Norfolk, NE; and Amanda Marshall of Norfolk, NE; 7 great-grandchildren; and 3 sister-in-laws, Harriet Wehrle of Norfolk, NE, Jean Patzel of Lincoln, NE, and Marjorie Patzel of Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don in 2009, and one brother Wes Wehrle.
