Nellie D. Arthur

A visitation for Nellie D. Arthur, 93, of Battle Creek, Formerly of Council Bluffs, will be Sunday, May 18th, from 6-9 p.m. at Community Pride Care Center, Battle Creek. Memorial services will be Tuesday, May 20th, at 5pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Council Bluffs, IA, followed by a visitation until 8pm. Home for Funerals; Norfolk, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
Nellie died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Community Pride Care Center, Battle Creek.
Nellie was born April 28, 1921, in Marion, MO to William and Myrtle (Ferguson) Phillips. Soon after the family moved to Council Bluffs, IA, where Nellie attended school and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. On December 21, 1942 Nellie married Rollo Arthur at Grace Presbyterian Church in Council Bluffs. She and Rollo raised their children in Council Bluffs. Nellie moved to Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek in January of 2013 to be closer to her daughter.
Nellie and Rollo worked for many years at Creighton University as standardized patients. According to her wishes, Nellie's body was donated to the Nebraska Anatomical Board for educational purposes.
Nellie was a member of Dodge Memorial Congregational and Westminster Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of a number of church groups. She was also a member of the Red Hats, and the Monday night club and enjoyed quilting. Nellie will be remembered by her family and many friends for her kindness and warm infectious smile.
Nellie is survived by a son Jon and his wife Karen Arthur of Grove, OK, a daughter Joan and her husband Don Mozer of Meadow Grove, NE, 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rollo on July 28, 2007, a son and daughter-in-law Phil and Jeanette Arthur, 2 great-grand-daughters in infancy, Emmerson and Gracen Arthur and 8 brothers and sisters.
