Paulette J. Haley

Funeral services for Paulette J. Haley, of Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Reverend Daniel Andrews will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Visitations will be Monday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a wake service at 7.

Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Haley passed away suddenly in Omaha on Thursday, January 30, 2014.

Paulette was born on October 14, 1943, in Norfolk, the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Peters) Bruckner. She was raised in McLean and graduated from Osmond High School in 1961. Paulette worked as a nurse assistant at the Osmond Hospital prior to attending the University of Nebraska in pre-nursing. In 1965, Paulette earned her RN from St. Catherine's School of Nursing, Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital, in Omaha.

On September 23, 1967, Paulette married C.E. "Tim" Haley at Christ The King Catholic Church in Omaha.

She continued her education at the University of Nebraska while being employed as an office nurse, staff nurse and charge nurse in Intensive Care at Archbishop Bergan Mercy Hospital. Paulette was also an instructor of nursing at Bergan Mercy Hospital and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In 1975, Paulette was Assistant Director and later the Director of Nursing in Nursing Service at Midlands Community Hospital in Papillion. Paulette earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing, in 1976, from the University of Nebraska College of Nursing. In 1977, she was an instructor of nursing education at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha.

In 1977, she and her family moved to Norfolk, NE, where she was the Director of Nursing at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Norfolk. She later became the administrative assistant at the Northern Nebraska Emergency Medical Services Council, in Norfolk. Paulette was the Director of Nursing at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Norfolk. Later, she was Clinical Instructor in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at the College of St. Mary's in Omaha. From 1993 to 2003, Paulette was a clinical instructor and adjunct faculty for the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. She served as Clinical Coordinator for the Norfolk Nursing Center (Long Term Care) in Norfolk through 1999. In December 2000, Paulette earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Creighton University School of Nursing in Omaha.

Paulette was appointed to the Adjunct Faculty Advisory Committee at Northeast Community College and Adjunct Faculty Committee for the Dean of Educational Services Search and Selection. She also served on the Board of Directors for The Link in Norfolk.

Paulette earned numerous honors including the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Iota Tau Chapter at Creighton University in Omaha, the Distinguished Service Award from the Nebraska Nurses Association, and Norfolk Community Improvement Award from the Women's Division of the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

In 1983, Paulette was co-founder of Paulyn's Dancewear/Dance Studio where she served as President and Director for many years.

Paulette's greatest passion was her family. She and Tim were married for over 46 years. She was devoted to their daughter, Erin, and took special delight in her granddaughter Hannah. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends.

She is survived by her husband, Tim, their daughter Erin and granddaughter Hannah, her brothers, Barry (Janice) Bruckner of Norfolk and Bradley Bruckner of Corsicana, TX.

Paulette was preceded in death by her parents.
