Gilbert E. Schott

Funeral services for Gilbert E. Schott, 88, of Norfolk will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church, Norfolk: Reverend Chip Winter will officiate. Burial will be in New Lutheran Cemetery, Norfolk. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644, and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk, Nebraska.
Gilbert went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, May 5, 2014 at his home.
Gilbert was born November 5, 1925 in Battle Creek, the son of William and Anna (Wegner) Schott. He was baptized November 29, 1925 and confirmed May 21, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Battle Creek.
He attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1943. Gilbert was drafted into the United States Army in June 1944. He served in the European Theatre and was wounded in action. He received his Honorable Discharge May 9, 1946.
On February 22, 1953 Gilbert married Arlyce Mae Kellner at Christ Lutheran Church, Norfolk. For the first 3 years of their marriage they lived on a farm south of Battle Creek, in 1956 they moved to their acreage east of Norfolk. Gilbert worked for Hespe Construction Co. He was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church serving on various boards.
Gilbert loved living on his acreage. He loved tending his large vegetable and flower garden and working in his woodworking shop. He enjoyed playing golf and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Gilbert was a loving father and grandfather; he is survived by his daughter Stacey and husband Tim Prang, his son Roger Schott all of Norfolk, granddaughter Haley (Monk) and husband Tom Pille, grandson Nicholas Monk, step-grandsons, Brandon (Christy) Prang and their daughter Brynlee, Matt (Tawnya) Prang and their daughter Nelle, sisters-in-law- Evelyn (Mrs. Charles) Hankins, Marilyn (Mrs. Dale) Reznicek, Frances (Mrs. Kenneth) Hansen and Adeline Schott.
He was preceded in death by his wife Arlyce on December 2, 2011, his parents and a brother Victor.
