Funeral services for Joseph H. "Turkey Joe" Fisher, 90, of Norfolk will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church; Norfolk Reverend Gregory Carl will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk, with Military rites by American Legion Post 16, VFW Post 1644, and the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk, Nebraska.
Joe died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Norfolk Veterans Home.
Joe was born July 6, 1923 to Joseph L. and Pearl (French) Fisher in Ewing, NE. As a young boy they moved to Norfolk where he attended Sacred Heart and graduated in 1940. He then attended the University of Nebraska. In July 1944 Joe entered the United States Army, serving in the Pacific and the Philippines. After his honorable discharge in August 1946, Joe returned to Norfolk.
In 1949 Joe joined his father at Fisher Realty for a real estate career that spanned 59 years. When he retired in 2008, Fisher Realty was the oldest real estate firm in Norfolk and for many years the largest. On December 26, 1953 Joe married Joyce McCarroll in Norfolk. They had 7 children and 25 wonderful years before Joyce's untimely death on May 5, 1979. On December 30, 1991 Joe and Alice McKee were married. Alice passed away November 4, 1999. Janet Bridge has been Joe's companion for the past 13 years.
Joe was a member of Sacred Heart parish where he was an usher for over 40 years; a member of American Legion Post 16 and the Norfolk Country Club. Joe was an avid hunter, golfer, farmer and Nebraska football fan.
Joe is survived by his 7 children, Jill and Mike Puls of Norfolk, Scott and Janice Fisher of Denver, Julie and Ed Shimerda of Lincoln, Amy Fisher of Denver, Becky Fisher of Lincoln, Jay Fisher of Kansas City, and Mark and Vicki Fisher of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren, Melissa Puls of Chicago, Jeff and Randee Puls of Missouri Valley, Dane Fisher of Los Angeles, Audrey Fisher of New York City, Jasmine Shimerda of Kansas City, Dylan Shimerda, Seth Shimerda both of Lincoln, Sarah Fisher, Jacob Fisher and

Sophie Fisher of Kansas City, Jackson Fisher of New York City, and Sadie Fisher of Lincoln; and 3 great-grandchildren, Landon and Kellan Puls, and Reagan Shimerda.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorials to Norfolk Catholic Schools or Norfolk Veterans Home.
