Funeral services for Elmer Holecek, age 86 of Verdigre, Nebraska, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Verdigre. Reverend Beverly Lanzendorf will officiate, with burial in Riverside Cemetery at Verdigre.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at Brockhaus Funeral Home.
Elmer died Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Avera Creighton Hospital in Creighton, Nebraska.
Elmer Holecek, son of Anton and Emma (Benda) Holecek, was born April 18, 1927, on the farm outside of Niobrara, Nebraska. Elmer attended District #6 rural school through the 8th grade. Elmer worked for many years as a farm laborer for Rudy Konopasek and also in the late 1940's for Ernest and Helen Franek. He also drove truck for Jim and George Mott. On September 8, 1975, Elmer married Fannie Cosgrove. They owned and operated Elmer's Bait Shoppe for over 20 years and retired on October 1, 1989.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Fannie of Verdigre, Nebraska; son, Dean; sister, Elsie Olson of Creighton, Nebraska; brothers, Frank (Esther) Holecek of Creighton, and Jimmy Holecek of Niobrara; brother-in-law, Art Sclechta of Niobrara; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Emma Holecek; sisters, Helen (Ernest) Franek, Tillie (Bill) Klinetobe, Rosemary (Alvin) Reckling, and Sally Slechta; brothers, Adolph (Betty) Holecek, Louis (Illene) Holecek, John Holecek, and George Holecek; brother-in-law, Doug Olson; and niece, Nancy Knouse.
