Joyce "Jo" M. Hoopes, daughter of John and Georgia (Stewart) Heick, was born September 15, 1939, near Crofton, Nebraska. Jo grew up in the Crofton area, where she attended Crofton High School, graduating with the Class of 1956. On July 4, 1959, Jo was married to Gordon Hoopes in El Paso, Texas.
Jo was very proud of her husband Gordon's service to our country and as a devoted military wife, she enjoyed moving wherever he was stationed. Gordon and Jo lived and traveled to such places as El Paso, Texas; Washington state; and Jo's favorite, Okinawa, Japan. Following Gordon's retirement from active duty in the mid 1970's, the couple moved Norfolk, Nebraska. After Gordon's death, Jo continued to reside in Norfolk until her death on August 4, 2014, at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 20 days.
Throughout Jo's lifetime, she had many hobbies including crafting, playing cards, garage sales, and taking bus trips. While these past times brought her much enjoyment, spending time with family was most dear to her. Jo was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and sister, and will be dearly missed by all that were fortunate enough to have her as a part of their life.
Jo is survived by her daughters, Cindy Voichoskie of Norfolk, Nebraska, Mary Jo Halverson of Scotland, South Dakota, Terry (Mark) Daggett of Tea, South Dakota, and Linda (Curt) Adrian of Parker, South Dakota; sisters, Shirley Mischke of Crofton, Nebraska, and LaVonne Koehler of Wausa, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 19 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; brothers, Vernon, Donald "Lee", Wayne, Lloyd, and Darrell Heick.
