10th Annual Agricultural Outlook Seminar Slated For Dec. 1st

WAYNE – The Wayne Area Economic Development Agribusiness Task Force will hold their 10th annual Agricultural Outlook Seminar at the Wayne Fire Hall from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, December 1st.

Toni Rasmussen, the new Ag instructor and FFA sponsor at Wayne High will speak to those in attendance. This is the first year Wayne High has had the program, so the Task Force is happy to have Rasmussen talk to the crowd, according to Task Force member Ronald Gentrup.

“Having an Ag program/Agribusiness program, it kind of compliments the other studies, the other programs at Wayne High School in terms of Industrial Arts and Auto Mechanics, various programs that will expose the students to a few more things involved with what the Ag industry will need going forward,” Gentrup said.

Other topics at the seminar will include a talk from Nebraska Climatologist, Al Dutcher who will speak about weather patterns that may affect agribusiness in 2018. Wind energy is a hot topic in Wayne County, and the Agribusiness Task Force is putting together a panel discussion, “Farming the Wind.”

“We’re working on getting some people involved in the wind program to make presentations and answer questions regarding wind energy,” Gentrup said.

The Ag Task Force will host Chamber Coffee Friday morning during the seminar’s break at 10. At 1 p.m., a meal will be catered by Vel’s Bakery. The Agribusiness Task Force hold the event every year to show area ag workers that they are an important asset to the community.

“The seminar is kind of a way for the community to pay back the agricultural community, to recognize the farmers for what they do,” Gentrup said.
