WAYNE – The first 50 kids, 16 years of age and younger, who are accompanied by an adult member will be allowed free into an annual Ducks Unlimited Banquet Friday.
Join the Wayne Area Chapter of Ducks Unlimited (DU) during their 13th annual Banquet to be held from the Wayne National Guard Armory (700 E. 7th St.) this Friday, November 10. A social will open the banquet at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and auction to follow at 7 p.m.
Kent Bearnes is the Chairman of the organized Wayne Area Chapter of Ducks Unlimited Committee. He explained what Ducks Unlimited is about.
“We talk about ducks and duck habitat, but we help out all wildlife,” said Bearnes. “This area of Nebraska is very critical for duck habitat. You know it’s kind of the center of the hour glass.”
Nebraska is in between the ring water basin south in Kansas and north through South Dakota called the shallow water area.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or from any committee member. A single adult ticket costs $40 with couples at $65, greenwings (youth) are $15 and a National Bronze level sponsorship is $265 which includes dinner and membership into Ducks Unlimited. Money raised will go towards the Ducks Unlimited Association & Foundation which supports programs in wildlife and habitat throughout Nebraska as well as the United States.
Ducks Unlimited was founded 1937 and with the holiday season coming up Bearnes added there’ll be some special Ducks Unlimited items with DU celebrating 80 years.
“If you have an avid wildlife enthusiast and you want specific Ducks Unlimited items for that particular individual as gifts this is a great place to come and do that,” Bearnes added.
The banquet will feature an auction of both collectible Ducks Unlimited art and memorabilia and other useful items for the hunter and collector.
