BEATRICE – A 15-year-old driver suffered minor injuries when the pickup he was driving, went out of control while trying to avoid a collision with a deer, north of Pickrell.

Gage County Sheriff’s Officers say the accident happened Thursday night at 8:47, about a quarter mile north of Chesnut Road, on U.S. Highway 77.

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling south when a deer entered the roadway.  The driver attempted to miss the animal, but the truck went off the west side of the highway.   Authorities say the driver then over-corrected, crossing both southbound lanes into the median.

The pickup then crossed the southbound lanes a second time and went off the west side of the highway, rolling several times.   The truck came to rest on its wheels.

Family members transported the 15-year-old male to Beatrice Community Hospital, for minor injuries.  Deputies say the pickup’s air bags deployed during the accident and the driver was using a seatbelt.
