COLUMBUS – A 23-year-old man is facing a felony shoplifting charge, after stealing items from a local grocery store and reportedly eating the food off the shelves.
Columbus Police Captain Todd Thalken says officers were called to the grocery store just off 23rd Street on Monday after reports that a man was taking food off the shelves and eating it, before placing the leftovers somewhere else in the store, in addition to taking other items. Police responded to the call, arriving as the man was leaving, and found the man with items on his person, says Thalken.
Police records say the man was jailed for felony shoplifting.
According to court records the man, 23-year-old Blaize Warnick, has been found guilty of shoplifting 4 times, theft by unlawful taking 2 times, in addition to convictions in 2 other cases, prior to the alleged incident on Monday.
Warnick was transported to the Platte County Detention Center following the arrest.
