A New Comic Book Store Sets Up Shop in Downtown Fremont

FREMONT – A local man recently brought a new shop to downtown Fremont.

Jarrod Steenblock is the owner and operator of One Stop Comics, which is located at 134 E. 4th Street in downtown Fremont. The store has been open for approximately three months. Steenblock is an avid comic book collector, and wanted to bring a comic book store back into town after other stores had either closed down or moved on. Steenblock says he chose to set up shop in downtown Fremont after hearing about the city’s plans to revitalize and redevelop the Historic Downtown Fremont district.

“I heard that Fremont had been cleaning up, rebuilding, and expanding the downtown area,” said Steenblock. “And then I have a friend that works downtown, and had been in communication with the building owner. And they actually said that they would be interested in renting it out to us, and having a spot open.”

Along with owning and operating One Stop Comics, Steenblock also has another job, and claims it can be a struggle balancing both jobs, but that it’s very rewarding. He says the response from the community has been warm and enthusiastic.

“It’s actually been really good. It’s been a warm reception. People have been super excited when they come down. They express great happiness that they don’t have to drive half an hour into Omaha or an hour into Lincoln,” said Steenblock. “It’s nice just to come downtown. You can actually spend the day down here, eat, come get your stuff, and your five or ten minutes from home.”

Steenblock says he plans to take part in some of the national comic book events, as well as events in the downtown Fremont area.

“I just missed Free Comic Book Day in May. I have already started ordering things for Halloween,” said Steenblock. “I’ll be participating in that, and the downtown Fremont area has the Trick or Trunk down here, so I’ll be open for that.”

Steenblock says he always makes it a point to help out his customers. He claims he does what he can during normal business hours, and is willing to make appointments outside of those hours when he can to help customers get what they’re looking for.
