Area Churches and Businesses Participate in “The Christmas Gift”

NORFOLK, NE — ‘Tis the season for giving.

You don’t need to tell that to Our Savior Lutheran.

For the third year in a row, Our Savior Lutheran, community members along with Norfolk GM Auto have partnered up with local businesses to make “The Christmas Gift” more magical. You could say it takes a small army, according to Director of Worship arts, Jordan Miller.

“The Norfolk GM has defiantly been helping a lot . We partnered with Wal-mart, Target, Bomgaars and Tyson is helping us out. We’ve had a lot of companies in and out of northeast Nebraska that have been pitching in to help out along with other churches.”

The shopping blitz, according to Miller is an ideal way to give back to families who may not be able to spend the money on gifts this year.

“We get to buy brand new toys and they get to come to our Christmas store and shop with a personal shopper and find things specifically for their kids for much less discounted cost…”

The first years shopping blitz served 500 families. The year after that 500 families were served on the first night. This year Miller and Pastor Ryan Taylor anticipate a much larger crowd, after all their new location can accommodate it.

“To have to decide between if I have to pay for the light bill or I’m going to pay for a gift for my kid is a little demeaning in a lot of ways.” Pastor Ryan says. “But even more than that, to be able to come and purchase a gift for your kid. We give you wrapping paper and tape and you can wrap it yourself and do the whole Christmas experience yourself.”

This will be the first ministry at the new location of Our Savior Lutheran, and both Taylor and Miller look forward to serving the community.

You can go Christmas Shopping on December 8 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m and on Saturday December 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2420 West Omaha Avenue.
