CRESTON – A Creston man is facing a felony strangulation charge after allegedly choking and kneeing a woman in the neck.
Greg Tift, 56, was arrested in Mid-July after an alleged altercation with a woman, says court records.
An arrest affidavit says, Tift began arguing with a woman about a coin that he had lost, and then allegedly became angry, throwing the woman on a couch where he held her down using his knee. Tift then allegedly choked her with his right hand, says the affidavit.
Eventually Tift let up, and the woman was able to call 911, she told police in the affidavit.
Police state in the affidavit, that the woman had marks on her neck and body consistent with what she reported.
Tift will be arraigned Friday on strangulation and assault charges, that carry a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison, a $26,000 fine, and post-release supervision. The arraignment is at 10:00 a.m.
In addition, a warrant is currently active in Dodge County for Tift, after he allegedly violated a protection order, in relation to the assault incident.
