Beatrice Bank Robbery Suspect Bound Over to District Court

BEATRICE – A Beatrice man charged with robbing a Great Western Bank branch in Beatrice, has waived preliminary hearing.

54-year-old Terry Bailes has been bound over to Gage County District Court for arraignment on a charge of robbery.  He remains in custody on a $25,000 appearance bond.

Bailes is suspected of walking into the bank at 10th and court on October 30th, and demanding money.  Police Captain Gerald Lamkin says Bailes was given a small amount of money and left on foot.  Police used a description from bank employees and bank surveillance video to identify Bailes, as the suspect.

Bailes was not armed, but allegedly had placed his hands inside his jacket, with the pockets protruding outward.  No weapon was displayed and no one was injured.

Bailes was arrested a short distance from the bank, near 9th and Ella. The incident prompted a lockdown at the Beatrice Middle School, just blocks away.

Officers stated in a court affidavit that when police confronted Bailes, he put his hands up in the air, stating he was the person they were looking for.

Police said Bailes told them, “this is better than being homeless”.
