NORFOLK – A 40th anniversary is cause for celebration. When it coincides with Independence Day in Norfolk, it will make for the biggest fireworks show in quite some time.
Big Bang Boom will mark 40 years of fireworks shows at Skyview Lake this Saturday with what they’re calling Norfolk’s biggest show to date. Big Bang Boom President Don Wisnieski says with a bigger budget this year and a bigger fireworks display planned, they’re excited for the festivities.
“This will be probably one of the largest shows that I’ve ever been a part of. We do quite a few shows throughout the year, but this is going to be spectacular…especially that finale.”
This year, Big Bang Boom boasts a new central command center in addition to a preview picnic for sponsors of this year’s event that took place on Wednesday night. After successful shows in Osmond last week and a big show planned for this year, Wisnieski is also looking forward to what 2016 can bring for fireworks shows to the city of Norfolk.
“We’re excited because it’s been a year in the planning. We’ve got another big year next year because it’s Norfolk’s 150th celebration and we’re going to be doing it at the same time Boomfest is going on, so we may have two real big shows. We’re really looking forward to this year’s show.”
There will be synchronized music to the fireworks display once again this year, which you can listen to on 94 Rock and on US 92 once the show begins at 9:45 p.m. Events will take place throughout the day at Skyview Lake on Saturday, including a challenge race at 8 a.m.
