FREMONT – Discussion of board goals and policies dominated the Board of Education’s regular meeting on Monday evening.
The board received updates on their goals concerning Development of Proficiency in Appropriate Social Skills and Behaviors and the district’s budget and finance strategies. Executive Director of Student Services and Business Affairs Brad Dahl says with the 60-day legislative session in the unicameral approaching, he wanted to give the board an update on the budget, and things they may have to look forward to once the legislative session begins.
Sections 8000 and 9000 of the Fremont Board Policy was also brought to the board during Monday’s meeting. Dahl says the board is beginning the long process of reviewing the entire policy.
“We are going through a thorough review of all of our board policies. We are making sure that they are relevant and they align with current state statues,” said Dahl. “And we’re going through the process to review our policies. We’re working with our School Board Small Group Policy Committee. We’re reviewing each policy individually and then we are bringing those policies back to the board for approval so they align with current statutes and are relevant to today’s issues.”
The Fremont Board Policies were provided by Perry Law Firm, but are updated every few years. The Board of Education will review each policy to make sure they align with any updated policies provided by Perry Law Firm and are relevant to the school district. The first reading for Sections 8000 and 9000 were approved with a unanimous vote. The second reading will take place next month, giving the board members time to review the sections.
