Business and Education Leaders Discuss Future with UNL President

It really doesn't mater what the question is, it doesn't matter what the problem is, education is the answer.

COLUMBUS – A university president was in town discussing with local business and education leaders the challenges Columbus currently faces and how to find solutions.

Dr. Hank Bounds will be the University of Nebraska’s seventh President, beginning his tenure Monday, and the Mississippi-native kicked off a state-wide tour Sunday with Columbus being one of his very first stops.

“It’s really my opportunity to listen and learn from Nebraskan’s about their hopes, dreams, and aspirations for the state; their expectations for the University, what they hope the University will be able to do to create a better state for our children and our grandchildren,” Bounds explained.

The meeting occurred at the Evan’s House on 14th Street, with the hour-long roundtable discussion’s main topics including keeping the workforce in Columbus and helping students realize secondary education is obtainable and worthwhile.

“It really doesn’t mater what the question is, it doesn’t matter what the problem is, education is the answer,” Bounds said. “It really takes all of us connecting and understanding each other’s issues throughout their own individual lens if we’re going to do that.”

Grand Island is the next stop for Dr. Bounds on Monday during his 20-community, 1,500 mile trek to get to know Nebraskan’s.
