Click It or Ticket It: Norfolk Below State Average for Buckling Up

NORFOLK, NE — Norfolk is significantly below state average when it comes to buckling up.

Only 61% of Norfolk drivers were observed wearing their seatbelt, the state average is 83 percent.

After all buckling up is your best bet to prevent serious injury or even death.

“Nothing is a guarantee that will prevent a fatality in a accident, but wearing a seatbelt substantially increases chances of survival.”

In a national Click It or Ticket effort, Norfolk Police Officers will be working around the clock, day and night, to make sure motorist are buckling up.

Officers will also make sure that children especially are properly restrained.

“Children don’t have a choice, it’s up to parents…They need to be the responsible one and make sure their children are buckled up.”

Miller says that if you have a child under six, they must be in a child seat, and not buckling them up will cost you.

“We don’t give warnings for that, whether it’s click it or ticket or not. Sometimes you see people driving down the street with children standing up on their lap…It’s common place to find children not buckled up in the cars.”

By buckling up you aren’t just saving the cost of a ticket, you could save your own life.

The effort starts on May 22 and will go to June 4.
