Columbus Mother of 3 Killed in Saturday Crash, Father Flown to Lincoln

SCHUYLER – Colfax County authorities have identified both the woman and man involved in a fatal car accident on Highway 30.

Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl says deputies on routine patrol observed a 2003 black Chevy Tahoe, with it’s headlights on,  sitting north of Highway 30 near County Road 4.  After observing the vehicle, Deputies found 41-year-old Angel Velazquez of Columbus laying in the grass median of the highway.

The deputy then found 37-year-old Amy Mindrup of Columbus near the Tahoe,  north of the highway. The Tahoe is registered to Mindrup, says Kracl.

Mindrup and Velazquez were transported to the Columbus Community Hospital, where Mindrup was pronounced dead, says Kracl.

Kracl says Velazquez was transported to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln by helicopter with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Kracl says the two shared three children together.

The matter remains under investigation but authorities say alcohol is believed to be a factor, and seat belts were not in use.

The Colfax County Sheriff’s Department and Schuyler Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

The deputy found the single vehicle rollover accident at approximately 2:15 a.m.
