Columbus Teen Accused of Rape has Trial in June

COLUMBUS – A Columbus teen accused of rape, was jailed on Thursday.

Platte County Sheriff Office reports say 19-year-old Andrew McCarter was jailed on Thursday at the PC Detention Center.

Court Records say McCarter is facing a class 2 felony charge for forcible 1st degree sexual assault.

An affidavit from Sergeant Brett Strecker says that a teen contacted police after an incident during a family event in Kansas, where she woke up to McCarter undressing her. The affidavit states, she asked McCarter to stop, but he continued to sexually assault the woman.

The affidavit then states that McCarter later texted her to apologize for “raping” her.

The report states that the victim told police, McCarter has sexually assaulted her on multiple other occasions.  The woman showed Sergeant Strecker screen shots of texts from McCarter that stated, “Like honestly I’m going to go to counseling and hopefully he turns me in on asking h I’m how to fix myself because I raped you…” says the affidavit.

McCarter is scheduled for a Jury Trial in Platte County District Court at 9 a.m. on June 19th, with a status hearing at 9 a.m. on June 13th.
