Columbus Woman Identified in Fatal Monday Night Accident

COLUMBUS – The sheriff’s office has released the identity of a 78-year-old Columbus woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene of a bicycle/car collision on Monday.

Platte County Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says on Monday at approximately 8:05 p.m., deputies responded to a a bicycle/car collision, about 1/2 mile west of East 14th Avenue.

Wemhoff says preliminary investigation indicated that a 2000 Nissan Maxima was being driven westbound on 8th Street by a Columbus 16-year-old man, when he struck the rear of the westbound bicycle. The bicycle was being operated by Patricia Steiner, 78, of Columbus.

Wemhoff says, Steiner was pronounced dead at the scene, and says the driver and passenger of the car remained uninjured.

Columbus Fire and Rescue, as well as the Columbus Police Department assisted the Platte County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by PCSO.
