Elementary Students Invited To Ride Bicycles To School Friday

WAYNE – With May being National Bike Month, students from Wayne Elementary are encouraged to get their bicycles and helmets ready for the Third National Bike to School Day this Friday, May 12.

Join children and adults around the nation to celebrate the benefits of bicycling and walking. The local event is put on by Wayne Elementary Boosters (WEB).

Those who would like to participate in Bike to School day may ride on their own, with parents or join one of the four “Bike Bus Caravans”. Adult volunteers and other riders will lead the way to school and back to the designated bike bus stops after school.

In the morning, plan on meeting at one of the designated bike bus stops in Wayne. Those include Sunnyview Park (Providence Road & 10th Street), East Park (East 5th Street), Ashley Park (Oak Drive & 3rd Street) and Bressler Park (Douglas Street & 9th Street). Riders plan on heading towards Wayne Elementary School (312 North Douglas Street) promptly at 7:30 a.m. and will depart after school, back to the bike bus stops, by 3:25 p.m.

On May 5, 2016 over 100 students biked to school including 16 volunteers.

Drivers, make sure to have a look out for bicycle riders this Friday in the morning around 7:30 a.m. and after school around 3:25 p.m.
