NORFOLK – A candidate for Nebraska Secretary of State is pushing for higher civic engagement.
Republican Bob Evnen announced his candidacy Monday for outgoing Secretary of State John Gale’s seat, then began a tour of Nebraska which reached Norfolk on Thursday.
The former two-term member of the Nebraska Board of Education says he wants to focus on increasing civic participation by educating more people on the importance of the voting process.
“You can make voting as easy as you care to,” Evnen said while in Norfolk Thursday. “You can make voting as easy as buying a lottery ticket. But the thing that really drives participation is when people know and care about their community, their state and their country.”
Even spoke to the Madison County GOP on Thursday. He most recently was the founder of Nebraskans for the Death Penalty, a group which advocated for the repeal of Nebraska’s overturn of capital punishment.
