First Weiner Dog Races Oktoberfest Hit

NORFOLK, NE — Another year of Oktoberfest has come and gone.

The event wrapped up on Saturday, but not before the first Weiner Dog Races.

The Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska teamed up with the chamber to bring the adorable family event to fruition.

All together 17 dogs were in the race.

Events Director from the chamber, Jarad Dahlkoetter says this being the first year for the races, they weren’t sure how the event would turn out.

Judging by the crowd its fair to say the event was quiet popular and will be coming back next year.

“I had no idea how it would go, but it ended up great. We are really happy and will try to do it again next year.”

Dahlkoetter says Oktoberfest couldn’t have been the hit it was without the hard work put in by volunteers.

“We have a lot of entities involved in the Norfolk community. We could not do this without our partners. We have over 60 volunteers and over 86 sponsors and probably 40 some different entities on the ground at any given moment.”
