For The Girls Draws Sell-Out Crowd

But when you see everyone coming together to support something that was so horrible to go through, it’s powerful. It’s supportive.

NORFOLK, NE — You could feel the energy radiate from Lori Williams at the For the Girls Fundraiser Wednesday night, and it’s easy to see why. The Divots DeVent Center was packed with a sell-out crowd of over 800 guests, patrons milled through silent auction tables while men delivered drinks, and that’s all before a performance by YouTube sensations and native-Nebraskans duo I Mom So Hard. But none of that is what sticks out to Williams.

“My favorite part is looking out over this room and seeing all these people have fun and knowing that a group of 16 women volunteers can put together something like this,” the Board of Directors member said. “And it’s absolutely amazing.”

But the light atmosphere has serious undertones. The fundraiser benefits a non-profit of the same name which donates money to breast cancer research and to the care and treatment of women with breast cancer in northeast Nebraska. It was the sixth year of the event.

“Unfortunately, breast cancer is a little bit like a sisterhood. It’s not a fun sisterhood to belong to,” Williams said. “But when you see everyone coming together to support something that was so horrible to go through, it’s powerful. It’s supportive.”

And through the laughs, the advice and the celebration, you could feel the support.
