O’NEILL –George Holm, formerly of Wayne, died Sunday late afternoon after first responders were dispatched to a location approximately 19 miles north of O’Neill with reference to an unresponsive adult male.

In a press release from the Holt County Attorney’s Office, Holm, 58 years old from O’Neill, was transported by ambulance to Avera Saint Anthony’s Hospital on Sunday, February 11 where he was declared deceased.

Holm managed the Dairy Queen in Wayne before purchasing a DQ in O’Neill as he also owned K & G Cleaners that was located next to Copy Write on Main Street in Wayne.

Following an investigation from the Holt County Sheriff’s Department along with the Holt County Attorney, they determined the cause of death was a snow sledding accident. According to the release, prior to his snow sled impacting a tree stump at high speed, Mr. Holm was able to protect a child who was also on the sled at the time. The child suffered no physical injuries.

On behalf of the Holt County First Responders, thoughts and prayers are with the Holm family during this difficult time.

Also according to the Associated Press, Holm announced his candidacy as a democrat, but did not officially file for the Legislative District 40 seat held by Tyson Larson. Larson will be leaving office because of term limits.
