FPD Continues to Receive Complaints of Sidewalks Not Being Cleared

FREMONT – The Fremont Police Department continues to receive complaints of snow on sidewalks not being shoveled.

According to Lt. Ed Watts with the department, they want to remind residents that per City Ordinance 8-602, if it snows any occupant/owner of a lot must remove the snow from sidewalks on their lot. The snow must be removed within eight hours, unless there is a case of overnight snowfall. Then the snow must be shoveled off of sidewalks by 10 a.m. the following morning.

In the event FPD receives a complaint of a sidewalk not being shoveled, they will contact the owner to issue a verbal warning to clear the sidewalk. If within three hours of the warning, the sidewalk is still not cleared the owner could be issued a citation. A City crew can also be summoned to clear the sidewalk at the lot owner’s expense.

According to the department, for purposes of safety to other residents and in the event that first responders need to respond in an emergency, the sidewalks need to be cleaned.
