Fremont Electrical Distribution Still Cleaning Up After June Storm

FREMONT – Storms, downed electric poles, and power outages were the main points of discussion for Rich Ray and Mike Royuk during the noon hour on Monday.

Mike Royuk is the City of Fremont’s Electric Distribution Superintendent. He discussed the recent winter weather and the havoc it’s cause. He says the recent snow storm that hit the city resulted in hundreds of electric customers being without power throughout the day.

“We had about 700 customers out at one time that day. A bunch of ice was on the lines,” said Royuk. “And with the high winds we had a few lines come down. We took care of some of the big outages pretty quickly. It started about eight o’clock Monday morning and we had everyone out that we could by eight o’clock that night.”

Royuk says the main damages they saw result from the storm was downed power lines. He also thanked his crews for braving the storm to get power back to customers. Royuk stated the recent storm took about a week to cleanup but that’s nothing compared to the storm that hit Fremont last summer. He said they are still working to fix some of the damage caused during the June storm.

“We only lost about eight poles in town. But we lost a mile and a quarter of our North Transmission Loop,” said Royuk. “That was about 35-65 poles. And we’re just getting those in here in the next month or two.”

Royuk said during the June storm there were approximately 4,600 customers without power and it took 48 hours to get everyone back online. But he wants to assure everyone that the members of his crews from the new recruits to the veterans are all trained and prepared for any storm.
