Fremont Fire Department Schedules Annual Open House

FREMONT – The Fremont Fire Department is hosting their annual Open House on October 8th.

Every year the department holds an Open House at the start of Fire Prevention Week, which take place from October 8th to October 14th this year. Fire Chief Todd Bernt says this year there will be plenty of activities for families and community members to take part in.

“The Parks Department will be here, and they’ll have a bounce house. Do some face painting. We’ll have the Fremont/Dodge County Communications Center here with the 911 Simulator,” said Bernt. “It’s to sort of help kids along on how to dial 911, the types of questions dispatchers will ask. We’ll have the Nebraska State Patrol here with their Seat Belt Convincer. It’s an apparatus that actually spins around and shows the importance of having a seat belt on.”

Other events will include tours of the Fire Station, poster contests, and the chance to view the new aerial truck. There will also be refreshments provided by Hy-Vee. Bernt says they hope to see most of the community at the event.

“It starts off on the week of Fire Prevention Week. We want the community to know what we do,” said Bernt. “Look at our equipment, the type of equipment that we carry, and answer any questions that the community will have. This is a community-wide event. We want everybody to come and see what we do.”

The Fire Department’s Open House will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 8th. The station is located at 415 E. 16th Street.
