FREMONT – The Fremont Nazarene Church is asking for the community’s support in raising the funds for a work and witness mission trip.
The church is planning a work and witness mission trip to Papua New Guinea for September and October of next year. Kelvin Sukut with the Fremont Nazarene Church says their work with Papua New Guinea and the idea to plan a mission trip began with a few missionaries that visited the church a few years ago.
“We had missionaries from Papua New Guinea that came and spoke at our church several years ago,” explained Sukut. “Someone from our church approached them asking what we could do to help. There’s actually a Nazarene hospital there, and earlier this year they told us they have a need to replace some of their housing there for the staff at the hospital. And we said we really wanted to do that.”
Sukut says their goal is to reach $45,000 in their fundraising efforts to pay for the travel, and also to supply some money to help gather the materials to build the housing. The Fremont Nazarene Church is putting together numerous fundraising activities for the next few months to help raise the money. Sukut says their first fundraising effort is taking part in the Fremont Parks and Recreation’s 48th Annual Holiday Craft Show on Saturday.
“We’re also going to start a quilt raffle. On December 13th Raising Cane’s, for anyone who comes in between 5-8 p.m. and mentions they want to support the mission trip, will donate a portion of the sales to us,” said Sukut. “And we have plans for a New Year’s Eve party at the church. And January 20th our women’s ministry is going to be doing a dessert auction and bake sale.”
Sukut says anyone who would like to donate but is unable to attend their fundraising events can call the church office at (402) 727-6445. Kelvin Sukut can also be reached at (402) 317-0871.
