Fremont YMCA Hosts Week-Long Event to get into Holiday Spirit

FREMONT – The Fremont Family YMCA is hosting a week-long event that will not only get the community into the Christmas spirit, but will also help to give back to other nonprofit organizations.

From December 11th to December 15th, the Fremont YMCA will host a Christmas Spirit Week. Each day of the week Monday through Friday will have a different theme, along with different items they are looking to have donated. All of the donated items will go to a particular agency each day. Valerie Prenzlow, the Director of Health and Wellness with the YMCA, says this is a new event for them to help give back to the community.

“We were talking and thought it would be a great way for the YMCA, since there are a lot of nonprofits and we are here for the community, to give back and support our other nonprofit agencies,”  said Prenzlow. “We kind of just picked five and talked to them to see what they needed this holiday season and what would best serve them. We thought it would be fun to have a theme each day and get people into that Christmas spirit.”

The agencies that will receive the donated items are the Jefferson House, Lutheran Family Services, the Low Income Ministry, Care Corps, and The Bridge.

The Fremont YMCA has also put up their Giving Trees, which will be up until December 29th. The trees are located in the Front Lobby, Wellness Center Area, Fitness Studio, and the Child Care Center. Members and people of the community can pick up an ornament and turn in the donation and ornament anytime until the end of the month.

Orange ornaments are for Group Fitness, blue are for Wellness, yellow represent Child Care/Before & After, pink is for Youth Sports/Tennis, and red ornaments are for YMCA Scholarships.

Prenzlow says they just want the community to know the YMCA appreciates all the support it receives.

“We just hope it’s a lot of fun for our members and the community,” said Prenzlow. “And we want to show the community how much we appreciate the community and what they do for us. The ornaments will be up until the end of the month.”

The theme for each day of Christmas Spirit Week with the Fremont YMCA and the items they need donated can be found on their website www.fremontfamilyymca.org or on their Facebook page, FREMONT FAMILY YMCA.
