NORFOLK, NE — Faith Regional Health Services wants to bring a life saving app to Norfolk.
Nearly 1,000 people die every day in the United States from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). However, with the PulsePoint app, it empowers every day citizens to provide life-saving assistance through CPR.
Faith Regional Health Service’s Emergency Medicine Physician, Dr. Lisa Yosten says that you have minutes until outcomes are irreversible, and out of hospital cardiac arrest is not very survivable.
“So anytime there is an out of hospital cardiac arrest, if somebody, a lay person, if it’s in a public place, if they can start CPR as soon as possible we can restart blood flow to those vital organs that are overall going to improve the recovery and the chances a person has…We’re very excited to bring it to Norfolk.”
Over the last year, in order to bring awareness and education to CPR, Faith Regional’s Chest Pain and Stroke Coordinator, Jenny Simmons traveled to 56 schools where over 1,500 kids and staff learned to do CPR.
Simmon’s says, “You never know if you will have to do CPR, it’s not like you schedule it in your day. If you know the basics of hands only CPR you will be good to go if you ever need to use it.”
All proceeds from this years Game of Hearts Casino Night on August 18 will go towards funding for the PulsePoint app. Faith Regional’s Foundation Executive Director, Jake Claussen says the community can only reap the benefits of the live-saving app.
“Whoever has the app on the phone would receive a push notification indicating someone is having cardiac arrest and where the location of that person is as well as AEDs. That would allow them to utilize them to use those AED’s if necessary and get to them as quickly as possible. The quicker they can get CPR going, the better likelihood that person will survive that cardiac arrest.”
The app will only alert those who are within walking distance of a SCA incident.
The event is on the 18th of august starting 6pm at the stables Event Center in Norfolk. Tickets are $40 at the door and $35 beforehand.
