Gage County Combines Emergency Management, Zoning Duties

BEATRICE – Newly appointed Gage County Emergency Management Coordinator Lisa Wiegand has been appointed as Gage County Zoning Administrator.

The Board of Supervisors approved the appointment today, which is effective as of this week.

Wiegand takes over for Nancy Niedfeldt, who served as interim zoning administrator from September 2011 to November, 2013…then as full-time zoning administrator, leading the commission as director for six years.

Supervisors Chairman Myron Dorn says the demands of planning and zoning have changed significantly in recent years.

The board has discussed in committee and mentioned in brief discussion at the full board level, the potential for combining emergency management and zoning functions.

Wiegand was recently hired as Emergency Management Coordinator at a salary of $42,000.   Dorn today said no decision has been made as to whether Wiegand will be paid additional salary for planning and zoning duties.  She was a long-time member of the county’s planning commission, previously serving as chairperson.
