Girls Scout Cookies Go On Sale Friday

WAYNE – For over a month Girls Scouts will be selling cookies and in Nebraska for the second year, Girls Scouts Spirit of Nebraska will be giving away a new car.

Now in its 101st anniversary of selling cookies, troops throughout Nebraska will open their selling season on Friday, February 2 through March 4.

Brandy Saltzman has been a part of the Wayne Girls Scouts since her daughter was in kindergarten. Now with a third-grader, Saltzman is the Brownie/Junior Leader and is in charge of the girl-led meetings.

“So, I kind of just give guidance on what we’re working on,” said Saltzman. “Like a badge and then they have different things for that badge or something that they can do together in the meeting to earn that badge.”

After the introduction of the S’mores cookie in 2017, other flavors such as thin mints, peanut butter patties and more are back. Cost is $4 per box for the Wayne Girl Scouts as money across the state stays in Nebraska.

Girls Scouts are broken down with Daisies (K-1st), Brownies (2nd-3rd), Juniors (4th-5th) and Cadets (6th-7th) as there are levels beyond junior high through high school. Between Daisies and Cadets there are roughly 35-45 girls in Wayne, according to Saltzman.

Cookies will be on hand and orders will be sent in weekly. If you know a Girls Scout, contact them and they’ll come to your house otherwise contact any of the leaders. Also, after February 9 several cookies booths will be setup in town.

Currently the Wayne Girls Scouts are talking about philanthropy.

“The Daisies have been working on recycling,” Saltzman added. “We’ve talked about some recycling in the Junior level as well. The Brownie troop is discussing different girls around the world, different cultures.”

Along with Saltzman, Katie Wynia leads the Daisies and Kris Kinzie leads the Cadets.

Registration is available anytime by contacting any of the leaders. Contact Saltzman at 402-369-0569.
