NORFOLK — Norfolk residents laced up their skates and hit the ice Friday night.
While a few actually hit the ice, a crowd of mostly children and parents tried to stay upright in the one-night event at the corner of 3rd and Norfolk Avenue. Among the crowd were sisters Alexa and Natalie, who thought the rink was a cool activity.
“Just having an ice skating rink that’s out in the middle of nowhere. It’s just cool,” Natalie said.
The rink is the main attraction of night one of Heart Days, an effort by Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Norfolk Association. Downtown businesses are open late Friday and Saturday with most offering special sales. The attractions were enough to keep Natalie and her family around.
“Yeah, we’ve already hung out here for a couple hours,” Natalie said. “Just skating with my family and friends.”
