NORFOLK, NE — Kids are taking time to “paws” and read during their day to local adoptable animals.
The Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska and the Norfolk Library have partnered up to give kids a reading buddy though their Paws To Read program.
“We wanted to partner with them” says Executive Director, Sydney Hurley, “and offer them new opportunities.”
Hurley says she was inspired after seeing success online from other organizations. She says animals make for great listeners, especially for kids who are just learning to read.
The reading shifts go from Tuesday to Thursday, noon to 3:30 p.m. Those who want to volunteer can contact the animal shelter directly or go to the Norfolk Library.
The program runs June 6 – July 28.
