COLUMBUS, Neb. – A new game is being introduced to Columbus, it’s called Knockerball.
“I like soccer, I like contact sports, this obviously is very safe with the Knockerballs on it. It kind of gives you more flexibility with bumping into people,” says Brad Bowns, who owns the Knockerball equipment.
Bowns, a Columbus resident, recently bought the thousand dollar-plus Knockerball equipment as an investment opportunity. He’s hoping to recruit area athletes who are looking for an activity a tad different than what they are used to.
“The one thing I noticed, when I did try it out in the past, is it’s incredibly fun. I’ve never seen anybody not laugh while they’re doing it,” says Bowns.
The game can be played by kids and adults alike, with the inflatable balls allowing little stress on a person’s body when they topple over from the contact.
“It’s very exhausting, it’s a good workout, so there’s other smaller games you can play on the side, as people need a break or sub in,” says Bowns.
Bowns is hoping to grow the game in Columbus, as he welcomes people who wish to rent out his equipment for birthday parties, fundraisers, corporate events and team-building exercises.
He’s also going to be promoting the unique sport, that combines elements of soccer, hockey and football, at Columbus Days later this month.
“We are going to look at doing free-plays, where you pay a few dollars to come out and try it,” says Bowns.
