NORFOLK, NE — For 30 years Norfolk Art Center has been partnering up with the Missoula Children’s Theatre to put together a theatre camp for local kids.
Art Center Program Coordinator, Denice Hansen says the play gives an opportunity to come out of their shells and face some fears
“It gives kids a great opp to get over the public speaking fear and so getting here at a young age and getting over those kind of things and getting exposure and learning to work as a team to listen and follow directions…”
The camp is for kids in first grade through 12th grade. Aside from the major roles kids were assigned to be assistant directors, animals to lighting crew. Hansen says the hands on experience gives kids a better insight to production roles and what goes into making successful play.
“You do your makeup, you get your costumes, the whole kit and kaboodle in one week. On Saturday we will have the performance. It’s a pretty intense week for the kinds but a lot of fun they always come out pretty happy.”
The kids have a week to prepare and memorize their lines before going on stage for their performance on Saturday at 3pm and 5:30pm.
