Man Pinned in Pickup in Tank Truck Accident on HWY 81

PLATTE COUNTY, Neb. – A man was pinned inside his vehicle after colliding with a tanker truck on Highway 81 on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident, involving a white pickup truck and a tank truck occurred around 4:30 p.m. near Lakeview road, or 256th St., in the southbound lane, around three miles south of Platte Center.

A deputy on scene told NCN that a man was inside the pickup, and that he was conscious and speaking with first responders. Emergency personnel were using Jaws of Life to open up the vehicle, in order to get the man out.

A medical helicopter from Fremont was on its way as of 5:15 p.m. to take him to a hospital.

It is unknown how the accident occurred.

The pickup truck’s left side was stuck on the tanker, but the tank truck did not appear to leak.

Traffic was backed up for some time and the deputy expected that to last for a couple more hours.
