National Monument Draws Nearly 5,000, For Homestead Days

BEATRICE –  Homestead National Monument officials are estimating attendance during Friday through Sunday Homestead Days events at nearly 5,000 visitors.   Park Superintendent Mark Engler says there was a lot to do during at the education and heritage centers and out on the prairie.

Preparing for this year’s events was quite different, because of damage cleanup and repair from a severe storm just a week earlier.

The monument was operating a shuttle service to transport people to the monument’s programs, which Engler says also helped serve as some practice for the upcoming events around the August solar eclipse, when many more buses will be utilized to shuttle people between various sites.
